About Us – A Family Tradition of Pure Romanian Honey

Hello, I'm Maria – co-founder of The Nature Queen, alongside my partner Vito.

Our journey began in 2019 with a simple goal: to share the finest, most delicious raw honey from our home country of Romania with families here in the UK.

This isn’t just any honey – it’s harvested with love by my family, especially my uncle Ghitoiu, a passionate beekeeper in the beautiful Danube region of southwest Romania.

 

Did you know?

Romania has the highest number of beekeepers in Europe. It's a country where beekeeping is more than a tradition – it’s a way of life. After living in the UK for over 13 years, we felt inspired to bring a taste of that heritage here. And so, The Nature Queen was born.

Where It All Began

Growing up in a small Romanian village, honey was the only sweet treat my mum would offer. I still remember, during the cold winters, how a jar of golden honey always sat on our dining table – a little pot of sunshine when we needed it most.

Now, as a mum myself, I truly understand the natural goodness honey offers – not just as food, but as nature’s remedy.

That passion led us to collaborate with my uncle Ghitoiu, owner of “Stupul Vesel” (The Happy Hive). He began beekeeping in 1987 with just two hives – more out of curiosity than anything else. But over time, it became his life’s work. Today, he cares for his bees like his own children.

 

Sustainably Sourced, Naturally Delicious

Our honey comes from Maglavit, a peaceful village in Dolj County, near the Danube River. The hives sit in our family’s orchard, right next to an acacia forest.

Every spring, once the acacia flowers bloom and fade, our bees move to the Râmnicu Vâlcea area for the pastoral season. By early July, they head to the sunflower fields, where we harvest our vibrant sunflower honey.

Throughout the season, our bees also produce rich polyfloral honey, gathered from wildflowers, lakes, and forest edges – a truly unique taste of untouched Romanian nature. At the end of season is time for Honeydew honey known as forest honey harvested between September- October
